The Social and Pro Bono Committee, created in 2002, brings together partners, associates, interns, and employees in initiatives, actions, pro bono work, and discussions on the application of resources (financial and management) in projects that help transform the lives of people in the communities we operate.

Some actions we support:

PRO BONO INITIATIVES

  • TRUSTLAW
  • We provide legal advice to third-sector entities in pro bono projects as participants of the TrustLaw global network. The pro bono legal services program offered by the Thomson Reuters Foundation connects nongovernmental organizations and social projects with the world's best law firms.
  • PRO BONO INSTITUTE
  • We support the organization, which encourages the provision of pro bono work, free legal advice, dissemination of legal knowledge, and awareness of legal professionals on the social function of the law.
  • TOMIE OHTAKE INSTITUTE
  • We provide pro bono legal services to the institution which, since 2001, holds domestic and international exhibitions of visual arts, architecture, and design in the City of São Paulo. It also promotes debate and research on the teaching of contemporary art and was a pioneer in creating new processes for the training of teachers and students of public and private schools.
  • MUBE (BRAZILIAN SCULPTURE MUSEUM)
  • Created in 1995, based on the design of architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha in São Paulo's Jardim Europa neighborhood, MUBE promotes art in its various forms - sculpture, painting, photography, graffiti, design, music, and film, hosting exhibitions of international artists and new names of Brazil's art scene. In addition to our pro bono work, we actively participate in the entity's management.
  • JEWISH MUSEUM OF SÃO PAULO
  • Entity focused on the generation and dissemination of knowledge about Judaism. In its various segments, the Jewish Museum of São Paulo records the migratory phases of the Jewish community in Brazil, its rites and traditions, and its presence in the different sectors of national daily life: art, literature, commerce, industry, sciences, technology, among other aspects.
  • 'ESTRELA NOVA' SOCIAL MOVIMENT
  • This initiative fosters the development of more than 5,000 children, adolescents, and young adults residing in São Paulo's Campo Limpo area, through a network of integrated social and educational activities, with active community involvement.
     

OTHER PROJECTS:

  • YOUTH ORCHESTRA OF THE STATE OF SÃO PAULO
  • Our sponsorship benefits best performing young musicians every year. The Ernani de Almeida Machado Award offers scholarships for further education in an institution abroad, as well as four prizes, whose values can be applied towards a scholarship or the purchase of first class musical instruments for the orchestra. The goal is to support the training of musicians, with the same enthusiasm and interest applied by the firm in training its own professionals.
  • PARCEIROS DA EDUCAÇÃO
  • We provide support to this organization, which promotes the partnership between businesses, entrepreneurs, and civil society organizations with public schools aiming to improve the academic performance of students. Through this partnership, we assist Raul Humaitá state school, in São Paulo.
  • CULTURA ARTÍSTICA THEATER
  • An architectural and historic landmark in the City of São Paulo, the Cultura Artística theater was destroyed by fire in August 2008. Machado Meyer invests in sponsoring the annual theater programming.
  • ART MUSEUM OF SÃO PAULO (MASP)
  • We participate in the Advisory Board of the institution and also provide financial and institutional support for specific campaigns.

  • Project aimed at building and managing libraries through volunteers in the cities of Brazil's Amazon.
  • VIVA O CENTRO
  • This association seeks to develop São Paulo's old downtown area from an urban, cultural, functional, social, and economic point of view, improving the living conditions of those who live or circulate in the area.
  • 'BRASIL SOLIDÁRIO' INSTITUTE
  • Organization contributing to the development of quality education, modernization of education, sustainable development and closer ties between the school community and the government through training and support programs in disadvantaged and low HDI (Human Development Index) communities.
  • UNIBES
  • The Brazilian-Israeli Union of Social Welfare carries out various social and community programs, working in the areas of human development, support to health, education, and culture.
  • LIGA SOLIDÁRIA
  • Develops socio-educational and citizenship programs benefiting over 10,000 people.
  • PROF INSTITUTE
  • Offers vocational courses for young adults from the Paraisópolis slum in the City of São Paulo.
  • CASA JOSÉ COLTRO
  • Offers socio-educational support to children, adolescents, and families in the City of São Paulo.
  • SANTA FÉ
  • Assists boys and girls who are victims of abuse, abandonment, and sexual violence, many of them coming from the streets of São Paulo.
  • 'MARIA HELEN DREXEL' ASSOCIATION
  • Assists children and adolescents whose fundamental rights have been violated or threatened by providing protection, assistance, health, and education.
  • CASAS TAIGUARA
  • Assists homeless children and adolescents, mainly coming from the streets of São Paulo since 1996.
     
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS TRUSTLAW AWARDS
In 2015, we were awarded in the Innovation category for the work done in partnership with other firms and companies for TECHO, an organization operating in Latin America and the Caribbean, which seeks to overcome the poverty affecting millions of people, through joint actions of residents and young volunteers.

PRO BONO LEADING LIGHT
In 2014 and 2015, we were recognized by the publication Latin Lawyer and by the Cyrus R Vance Center as one of the principal law firms that contribute to the development of a pro bono culture in Latin America.
