Machado Meyer is one of the finalists in the 2016 TrustLaw Awards, an initiative promoted by the Thomson Reuters Foundation to recognize pro bono projects more impactful, innovative and collaborative around the world. The firm, the only nominee of the Americas, is competing in the "Domestic Law Firm of the Year" category. The winners will be announced on September 22, in New York.

Among the most recent examples of pro bono work, lawyers Ariana Anfe and Gisela Mation, from the litigation area, and Pedro Felipe da Silva, from the sports law practice, acted as pro bono lawyers in sports arbitrations of the Olympic Games.

The firm also assists the Tomie Ohtake Institute in a multidisciplinary way, such as in matters relating to labor, tax, financial and intellectual property law. Advice is also provided by our financial practice to the Alliance for Financial Inclusion, an entity headquartered in Malaysia, which seeks to pave the way for a series of policies to improve access to financial services for people living below the poverty line.

Last year, TrustLaw awarded the office for acting on behalf of TETO, an organization of Latin America and the Caribbean that seeks to overcome the poverty condition affecting millions of people through joint actions of residents and young volunteers. In 2015, Machado Meyer also served as facilitator for a project aiming to install photovoltaic panels in peaceful communities in Rio de Janeiro.

According to Eduardo Castro, member of the Citizens′ Committee, "our partnership with the entities registered in TrustLaw and seeking pro bono legal services in the country has only increased each year. And this nomination - which is already a source of great pride for all of us - is also an excellent proof that we are on the right track in this area".
