Brazilian firm Machado, Meyer, Sendacz e Opice Advogados and US firm Dewey LeBoeuf LLP provided counsel to the initial purchasers: Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith, Barclays Capital, BTG Pactual US Capital, Banco Espírito Santo de Investimento, Sucursal en España and HSBC Securities. The issuance closed on 10 February.

Brasil Telecom turned to Madrona Hong twice at the end of last year – first for a financing arrangement obtained in conjunction with a syndicate of telecoms companies in November, then again in December for a US$1.3 billion debentures issuance.
