Machado, Meyer, Sendacz e Opice Advogados and Landay & Leblang Attorneys have helped Brazil’s Banco Industrial e Comercial (BicBanco) obtain a US$200 million loan from a syndicate led by the Inter-American Development Bank.

The IADB was represented by Dias Carneiro Advogados and Andrews Kurth LLP in the deal, which closed on 19 January and will allow BicBanco to disburse financings to small and medium-sized health and education related enterprises in Brazil.

The total dual currency transaction consists of two loans: A first financing comprising a US$45 million tranche and a €3.6 million tranche, and a second financing made up of US$138 million and €15.5 million.

The IADB worked with Citibank, Standard Chartered Bank, Wells Fargo Bank, the New York branch of WestLB, the Israel Discount Bank of New York, Goldman Sachs Bank USA and ING to organise the financing.

Andrews Kurth recently helped the IADB in two financing transactions in Ecuador: the firm assisted in a US$21 million loan to Banco Pichincha on 20 December, and helped organise a US$15 million loan to Banco de Guayaquil only two days later.

Dias Carneiro, meanwhile, represented the IADB and four other banks in a US$786 million financing that closed late last year, and will allow Embraport to construct and operate a new container at Brazil’s Santos port.

BicBanco relied on the exact same counsel that assisted the bank in an IADB loan agreement in 2008 – a deal in which Andrews Kurth also participated.
