Machado, Meyer, Sendacz e Opice Advogados’ Salvador office is assisting Bahia State in preparing a financing model for the FIFA World Cup tournament Brazil is to host in 2014.

The state government needs to raise funding for the reconstruction of the Fonte Nova stadium and has hired Machado Meyer alongside financial advisor KPMG to analyse and develop the best financial and legal model to do so.

Machado Meyer partner Octávio Bulcão Nascimento says they are examining several options, including public and private resources such as a public-private partnership (PPP) and a system of grants and subsidies. A bid should be launched in the coming months.
The international football federation, FIFA, announced on 31 May that the 2014 World Cup finals will take place in Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Cuiabá, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Manaus, Natal, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and São Paulo.

Another Brazilian firm, TozziniFreire Advogados, has been quick to respond - setting up a multidisciplinary practice group to assist companies involved in the country's preparations for the tournament in June.
