Vinicius Marques de Carvalho Advogados, a Brazilian firm led by the country's former antitrust chief, has opened a data protection and privacy practice.

The firm announced on 28 January that existing partner Marcela Mattiuzzo will lead a new data protection and privacy practice.

In a press release, the firm said the incoming Brazilian Data Protection Law was behind the move and that the practice will focus on compliance, information security and unfair competition. Mattiuzzo has been a partner at the firm since its creation in 2017.
