Brazil's competition authority is set to investigate several lorry driver unions over ongoing strikes that the enforcer says may have caused anticompetitive harm, in what appears to be an unprecedented probe.
The Administrative Council for Economic Defence (CADE) said on Friday that it had begun a preliminary investigation to determine whether the striking lorry drivers have violated Brazil's competition law. The law prohibits conduct that distorts free competition; abuses a dominant market position; or destroys or renders difficult the operation of equipment designed to transport raw materials.
