The New York and São Paulo offices of Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP and Machado, Meyer, Sendacz e Opice Advogados in São Paulo have helped Spanish telecoms company Telefónica issue preferred shares worth US$5.5 billion to fund its acquisition of Brazilian broadband provider GVT from France’s Vivendi.
Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP in New York and São Paulo and Brazil’s Mattos Filho, Veiga Filho, Marrey Jr e Quiroga Advogados advised the underwriters for the deal, which closed on 5 May. The shares were issued on São Paulo stock exchange BM&F Bovespa and the New York Stock Exchange.
