Mattos Filho, Veiga Filho, Marrey Jr e Quiroga Advogados and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP have helped pharmaceutical retailer Brazil Pharma debut on Brazil′s stock exchange.

Machado, Meyer, Sendacz e Opice Advogados and White & Case LLP advised the IPO coordinators, BTG Pactual, Morgan Stanley and Bradesco BBI. The company raised a total of US$260 million through its IPO on BM&FBovespa and internationally to institutional investors on 24 June. The shares began trading on Monday on the Novo Mercado, which has the most rigorous listing rules on the São Paulo bourse. Machado Meyer partner Eliana Chimenti says that since the investors could not get a comprehensive perception of the business through its financial statements "they were spontaneously presented a technical study".She adds that the offering was targeted to qualified investors by increasing the minimum amount that could be invested in the shares.Brazil Pharma is owned by investment bank BTG Pactual, which earlier this year bought Brazilian bank Panamericano after it had been bailed out by a bank-financed deposit insurance fund, Fundo Garantidor de Créditos. For that deal BTG was advised by Barbosa Müssnich & Aragão, while Mattos Filho advised the sellers. At the end of 2010, the bank also retained Barbosa Müssnich, as well as Velloza, Girotto E Lindenbojm Advogados Associados SC and Skadden Arps, when it sold an 18.7 per cent stake of its operations to a consortium of international investors.Counsel to Brazil PharmaBrazilMattos Filho, Veiga Filho, Marrey Jr e Quiroga Advogados
